A mechanical shaft seal is also known as a Heavy Duty Seal, Lifetime Seal, Floating Seal, Face Seal, etc.

Mechanical shaft seals are designed specifically for rotary applications in challenging environments. They are used to resist wear, and prevent penetration from coarse and wearing external media.

Many variants of mechanical shaft seals are available for use with different applications.

PROFILE

There are many different types of profiles within mechanical shaft seals. The profile below is an O-ring mounted with a parallel single spring.

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES
• Low friction and long lifetime
• Gliding speed up to 25 m/s
• Resistance against a range of aggressive liquids
• Many different dimensions and types
• Easy fitting and removal

APPLICATION
Used in almost every industry, such as the food industry and the process industry, in pumps, pipes, turbines, agitators, etc.
The seal is very hygienic and therefore used most often in the food and pharmaceutical industry, to prevent penetration from foreign bodies. The two sliding faces must be disinfected with alcohol before the seal is fitted.

INSTALLATION
It is very important that assembly tools are made of soft material and have no sharp edges.

NOTES
Mechanical shaft seals must never operate in dry running conditions unless the shaft seal is designed for this purpose, otherwise the seal will burn and become destroyed.
